I knew I was doomed when we had a belted red doe with a perfect bulls-eye on her side. My kids were smitten. Nutmeg has been an unassuming, easy-going doe. She's one of those that's always in the background.
She freshened with a single doe the week I broke my foot. My boys were doing all the chores and I was heartbroken to find that her udder was getting very uneven! I worked hard from that moment on to tape the side the kid favored and stimulate the other side. By appraisal day, it was hardly noticeable. Feeling overwhelmed with my injury, I offered her for sale, but I never heard back from the people to whom I priced her.
Flash forward another three weeks, Meggie went on to stand in first place under four judges at the Carrollton show and both judges at Monroe. She's off the market now. We think this girl will be one to watch going forward and has earned her spot on our milking string.
