First Freshening Daughters

A big thank you to Vicki Sudderth for also letting us use Hank on Hammock Haven Evelyn. Hank is another dream buck from Lucky*Star's and gave us two beautiful daughters this spring!

Alright, alright, we have become buck collectors to a small degree, but how could we pass up the opportunity for a buckling out of the seven time National Premier Sire?

His dam, Wicked, has all the stature and strength we are shooting for. We are looking to Ryder to add stature and strength and bring teats closer together.

Ryder is co-owned by Victoria Sudderth of Livin My Dream Farm.

Whiskey Baron is one of about 30 lamanchas accepted into ADGA's Young Sire Development Program for 2015. His dam was named the number one lamancha on ADGA's Elite Doe Listfor 2015.  She finished her 2015 lactation with 284 days in milk 3,337 lbs, Fat 3.7% 124 lbs, and protein 3.4% 112 lbs. She placed 17 in a very large class of four-year-olds at the 2016 ADGA national show.

We brought Whiskey in from NJ with the plan that he will add milk production and level lactation to his kids. He is our longest and tallest buck. He was still immature and did not appraise well last year.

His daughter, Rayne, went Reserve Champion at the Monroe show and 2nd of 13 kids at Perry. I am looking forward to seeing some of his girls freshen and show of what we really bought him for- lots and lots of milk.

He is starting to show off what we bought him for with amazing mammaries on all his fresh daughters!

Hammock Haven Bucks

Wicked is 3rd from the left

We believe that the fastest way to improve our herd is through good bucks. With this in mind, we have brought in high quality bucks from around the country.

In addition, we learned to AI and have a nice selection of frozen sires to choose from to help reach our breeding goals. We haven't utilized AI much since we are so excited about our herd sires.

"Bubba" has an impressive pedigree. His dam, Sammy Jo, is one of my favorite does with E's and V's in every category and an overall score of 91. Pictures don't do her justice.

His Sire's Dam, Heart Mt Annika 90 VEEE 4*M was mother to a 2015 Spotlight Sale buckling. She finished her championship as a yearling milker. His half sisters, both maternal and paternal, have multiple Grand and Best in Show wins to their names.

We brought him in with a mind to put some strength on our girls and improve general appearance.  We are so pleased with his daughters and how he is maturing (especially his front-end, escutcheon, and rump), we used him even more in 2016.

He puts a lot of length to body and rump. Even with the extra length, they are still deep bodied and have very nice strength. We love how his daughter, Katerina, crossed with Henning. We will be doing more of that in the future.

Here we go breaking all the rules! We are keeping a buck from a first freshener and a relatively unproven sire.

Our favorite does are consistently from the "Kat" line. They are long, tall, strong, and balanced. They are graceful and feminine with high heads and a long bone pattern. They have a lot of milk with very nice solids. They are growthy, deep bodied, and early maturing. In our limited show experience, they have all placed at the very top of their age group.

Cason is showing all the same physical traits as the female relatives we love while bringing exciting new genetics to the herd via his sire Autumn-Acres Tandras Chance (see below). Chance's first milking daughter just appraised an 87 V+EV  as a yearling.

Why wouldn't we keep him?....Just In Case.

First Freshening Daughters

We were excited to have the opportunity to use Chance on one of our homegrown favorites, Hammock Haven Tatiana "Tatchi", this fall.

We love the length and strength on him as well as the beautiful mammaries in his pedigree.

We are so pleased with the results of the breeding, we are retaining both his son and daughter.

You can see more pictures on Livin My Dream's website. http://livinmydreamfarm.com/chance.html

Chance's dam

I have long admired Lucky*Star's herd. Very few herds have such consistently beautiful, high producing animals with the milk records and appraisal scores to back up their claims.

Henning's dam, Vivian, is an icon in the lamancha world. Now 11 years old, she has a final LA score of 94 EEEE, has been on the Top Ten list several times, and has amazing solids in her milk. She is dam to the 2016 ADGA National Premier Sire, Lucky*Star's RA Denzel. She is also dam to one my favorite lamancha bucks, Lucky*Stars AV Xavier.

Henning's paternal grandsire, Altrece Cosmopolitan, is sire to the 2016 National Grand Champion doe, Mint*Leaf Elusive. We have hopes that he will improve front ends, dairy strength, and solids in our milk.
